Baby D will be the first grandchild for my parents. So I knew they would be over the moon excited, my mom for sure. So I searched and searched for cute ways to tell them that we were pregs. Naturally, I took to Pinterest. Oh Pinterest how I love you.
My top ideas were these.
First I thought about getting a grandma and grandpa picture frame and putting a copy of the sonogram in it, wrap that sucker up and give that to them. Kind of like this.
But then I didn't want to have to go around searching for these kind of frames so I X'd that out. Since it was around Thanksgiving I also thought of telling my mom that I will bring dessert to the big meal and then bring cookies or a cupcakes that said "I'm Pregnant." Like this...
But I couldn't wait until Thanksgiving which was a whole two weeks after we already knew!! So we drove down to my parents in Jersey just a week and a half after finding out. We decided to go with little baby bible story books. We found some cute ones at the dollar store...score! So we wrote a note on them that said "Nana, please read me this book when you meet me in July. Love Baby D." We did one for my mom and one for my dad. Then we wrapped them up!
I could barely stand it driving the two hours to their house! I couldn't wait to tell my mom especially. So we got there and Josh got the camera ready! I wanted to video tape my mom's reaction because it was sooooo priceless but we opted for photos so we could put them in our baby book. About five minutes after we got there I told my parents I had a gift for them. I handed each of them the two wrapped up books. My mom first looks at it and goes, "is this a CD?" No mom, no mom. So they both open it and my mom reads it before my dad. It took her a second to let it register. She kind of stared at it a while and Josh and I were looking at each other like... um what is happening?? Then she starts screaming on top of her lungs, literally screaming like a crazy person.
Now notice my dad. HA! He didn't have his glasses on so he was really confused. Especially since my mom was screaming like someone was attacking her. Check out his priceless face in this next picture as my mom starts screaming "I'm going to be a grandma!! I have to tell someone! I have to tell anyone!!"
My mom then threw out the rule of how you are not supposed to tell anyone until the third month and when I was just five weeks pregnant she got on the horn and started calling a million people! It was cute and special and wonderful! My dad...well he proceeded to grab those two bottles of wine on the table there...and the rest is history.
