If you can't already tell, I love to craft, but that is not why I am loving Hobby Lobby this week.
Unless you have been under a rock, you have heard about the Supreme Court decision ruling in favor of the craft store Hobby Lobby. The ongoing court battle was taken to the Supreme Court after Hobby Lobby refused to cover the "abortion inducing pills" for their employees, which is mandated under ObamaCare. (Hobby Lobby has no problem with contraceptives, they cover that already, they just take issue with abortion-inducing pills. Under ObamaCare the "abortion" or morning after pill falls under "preventative medicine.")
The Supreme Court ruled in favor of the chain this week, saying they should not be forced to pay for what they claim violates their religious freedoms.
This was a big victory for the family owned business and for all Americans as far as I am concerned. Anyone who stands up to the over involved federal government and wins, is okay in my book. However, the back lash of this decision by the progressive left was fierce. Almost comical to me. I can't help but vent...
If you took to twitter and or any left leaning publications and television stations over the last day, you would have seen some ridiculousness. It's almost too much to bear. There was talk of burning down Hobby Lobby buildings, people were comparing this ruling to Sharia Law and women were acting like all of their freedoms have just been stripped away right under their nose. It was quite insane.
The truth here is this: No one is saying you can't go buy birth control or the morning after pill. Go right ahead. All this ruling did was prevent private companies from being forced to violate their religious freedoms by having to pay for your 'abortion pill'. It gives them the choice. I mean isn't that what a democracy is?
The media and left has molded this fight in such a way so that people think this is an issue of "Right Wing Christians vs Progressive Women." That's just not true.
This case was a freedom case. It was a case of small businesses and regular folks vs the government. This is government over reaching once again and forcing businesses and people to do what they want and not what the individual feels is morally right. People are so blinded by their dependency on society and the government to even get that. We are creating a nation of dependent and entitled people who want to be handed everything and anything by our big government ...and funded by tax payers.
Look, If you want to get the morning after pill...go buy it or walk on over to Planned Parenthood because they are giving them out there like skittles. No one is stopping you. But why should I have to pay for it? Why should a company be forced to cover a prescription pill that stands against what they believe in? And why should tax dollars have to support it?
Hobby Lobby's fight to stop the government mandate was not personally hurting any individual...there are still other options for their female employees. Like don't work there...being one of them. If you want the government, businesses and people to stay out of "the bedroom," "your reproductive organs" and stay out of "your sex life," than don't ask the government or business to supply you with the props to maintain this sex life. Because as far as I am concerned I should have a say where MY money goes. What a noble yet foreign thought these days.
Whatever you believe is right and wherever your morals lie, I urge you to see this case for what it really is. It's not about your womanly body, or your right to choose, its about an American's right to put their foot in the sand, stand up against the government and say, no I will not violate what I believe is morally right and within social reason, because you tell me to.
