Last week my sister and mother threw me another beautiful shower!! There were nearly 50 of mine and my mother's closest friends and family that came. Some women who I have known all my life and friends that have been by my side for over 15 years.
It was a catered brunch at a beautiful spot near my sisters condo. One of the women that came (that used to baby sit me!) made all of the wonderful cookie favors and the desserts!
We played games, opened gifts and stuffed our faces!!
It was so humbling when opening all the gifts. Out of 99 things we put on our registry there were only 9 things left after this shower! Hundreds of dollars worth of gifts...it was incredible.
Now, I am not a crier folks. It takes a lot for me to shed a tear normally. But my mother made the tears flow at the end of my shower....The only lady missing at this shower was my Nanny. My mother's mom, passed away in 2003. She was like my second mother and my best friend. Our birthday's were two days apart and I always loved celebrating it with her. As I got older she became my friend. She was one of the kindest, most loving and sacrificing women I have ever known. I got to spend 20 wonderful years with her before she died. She was all that was missing from this day. I know she would just be in love with baby girl!! So at the end of the shower my mom gave me a gift. Inside was a little pink coat and bonnet that my Nanny gave her for me when I was a little girl.
Then she read this note...
I cant believe that my baby is having a baby! I am beyond ecstatic. As I pass down this little coat and hat that Nanny got for you, to your little girl, I hope also to pass on a legacy of faith, love and family. I am so blessed to know that you will train up this little girl in the ways of the Lord and have found the right man to do it with. This is a Mother's prayer answered.
I am so thankful that you realize the part that I have in all of this because of the very special part your grandmas had in your childhood. I pray as you hold your daughter, you will begin to understand fully how I felt a long time ago. I pray for you, the same sweet relationship I have with you and your sister. The road getting there may not always be easy, but let love, faith and A lot of prayer guide you.
I will be here to help in any way I can and God will give you the grace and strength you will need for this tough, but very rewarding job of Mommy!
Always remember though...when all else fails...send her to grandmas!
I love you my Lisa
Now, my mother is known for her poems...but this letter was just wonderful! My mom is truly the best and because of how she raised me....and with the help of God...I know I will be a great mom to my little girl!
I will cherish this letter always and when I put that little coat on my little girl I will know that Nanny is looking down and smiling!
Here are a few other pictures from the shower! I am waiting on the rest from one of the ladies that was at the event! So I will upload them as soon as I get them!!! Josh and I are so thankful for these women in our lives. Knowing that they will love and pray for Baby D throughout her life makes me one happy mama!
P.S. I don't know why I had on that hat the whole time!! Ha! I forgot it was on...I think...I blame Megan!! hahaha!
